Coastside is one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

At times, it reminds me so much of how Kahuku and Kawela Bay used to look, long ago, before the hotels and the fast foods.

There are many beautiful places to hike and watch wildlife in Pacifica and all along Coastside. All year round we are afloat with California wildflowers, but especially in spring. We are also blessed with the glorious California State Parks and National Parks of Northern California, and Oceanic Society Expeditions.

A little ways south is Pigeon Point Lighthouse, then Butano State Park.

Only a little farther is Año Nuevo, a coastal reserve for California's elephant seals.  During the winter you can watch the struggles and the births; the rest of the year, observe hauling out and moulting.  They are awesome to behold, bigger than you'd ever dream possible, and I never get tired of visiting them.

A bit farther from there is the fabulous Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Heading north, several times a year, members of the Marine Mammal Center can visit our healing seals and sea lions on the coast near Sausalito.  Dedicated volunteers take excellent care of marine mammals who've been orphaned and/or injured.

My favorite restaurant is Duarte's, in Pescadero, with their fine green chile soup, and strawberry/rhubarb pie so fresh. In The City, I love Cliff House, for the wonderful setting and view.

The City is simply too rich to detail all that it offers, and there are already many sites desperately trying to do so, but I must mention a personal favorite:  The Zeum's 1906 carousel, in a spanking new glass building.  And... it's only a block from my office!

A Coastside thought for Sunday mornings:
Some keep the Sabbath going to church
        I keep it staying at home,
With a bobolink for a chorister,
And an orchard for a dome.

Some keep the Sabbath in surplice;
I just wear my wings,
And instead of tolling the bell for church,
Our little sexton sings.

God preaches, -- a noted clergyman, --
And the sermon is never long;
So instead of getting to heaven at last,
I'm going all along!

On vacations, if not heading for Hawai'i, I love to be in Cancún or Cozumel. I also had one of the best times of my life in Las Vegas, and would like to go back (killer VR rides!).  And most of you have now seen my beautiful photojournal of my wonderful Scotland trips.  But my next big dream is... to swim with the manatees!
