The Moana

Moana Hotel Porte-cochere
The Moana Hotel wears grace of both architecture and landscaping.  Along the front, you can see the mauka (mountainward) veranda, still with the white rockers for guests who choose to watch the spectacle of Waikiki pass by.  Note the bridal limousine, for one of several dozen weddings at the hotel in the few days I stayed.

Moana's Courtyard Stage
In the makai (beachside) courtyard of the Moana is the stage where I played as a child.  Weekends, the stage was filled with professionals. It was from this stage that Webley Edwards transmitted his world famous program of Hawai'ian Music, Hawai'i Calls.  But when the celebrities vanished, my friends and I mounted the steps to dance the hula, to the deafening applause of our imaginary and adoring audience.  This was a cool and lovely place, then.
